Alfa Laval Solid Bowl Centrifuges (SBCs) are suitable for the recovery of solids from tailings and fine coal recovery.
The dry solids produced from tailings can contribute to mine rehabilitation, which in turn reduces the need for tailings dams.
SBCs can also help to achieve water savings as they enable water re-use within the CHPP. SBCs are continuous, enclosed and clean in operation.
They require minimal operator monitoring. There are now nine large SBCs installed or soon to be installed at CHPPs in NSW and QLD.
This proven technology is based on thousands of SBCs supplied and serviced by Alfa Laval across a large range of process industries worldwide.

allmineral - Hard coal and lignite sorting solutions
Sorting of hard coal is the classic application for alljig® and allflux® technologies. A special feature of the alljig® jigging machines is the compound stroke motion which extends the feed size range and capacity, when processing finer sized coal. The allflux®-system allows beneficiation with a high capacity in a single unit. The latest innovation for the separation of pyrite and rock from coal without the use of water is the allair®-jig. STEINERT - Magnetic separation and sensor-based sorting solutions for coal
An effective means of dry coal beneficiation is offered by our STEINERT XSS T sorting system based on ‘dual energy’ x-ray transmission. This allows ash content to be reduced without the use of water, while specific contaminants such as sulphur can be accurately removed. Since the x-ray technology is capable of detecting atomic differences in the rock, the almost pure carbon in the coal is relatively easy to separate from the waste rock. For traditional plant we offer the STEINERT WDS wet drum magnetic separators, which are optimised for the recovery of magnetite and ferrosilicon from the heavy media of the sink/float separators. In this way, traditional coal washing can be performed economically, through the recovery of the heavy media. Contact sales@steinert.com.au for more information.

Tomra - The demand for cleaner coal is rising – with power plants putting more effort into quality-control and suppliers being held accountable for poor quality. In meeting this demand, today’s mining industry faces multiple challenges such as water shortages, the need to develop lower grade coal deposits and increasing environmental legislation.
Sensor-based sorting of coal is one efficient way to meet these challenges. And more: A consistent, high-quality product even from low-grade deposits leads to higher returns and it can safeguard your status as a trusted coal producer and supplier. Sensor-based sorting with XRT (X-ray transmission) is a viable dry-processing technique which can be applied to de-stone coarse raw coal. A single TOMRA sorter can effectively de-stone coarse –120mm +50mm ROM feed coal at a rate of 300 tph capacity – the highest capacity in the world. Even higher throughputs can be accommodated by simply configuring sorters in parallel. TOMRA sorters require no pre-washing of the feed material and generate no wet tailings. A single TOMRA sorter can replace conventional cyclones, slurry pumps, dense media and spirals all in a very small and environmentally friendly footprint.
